Window to the soul

Barker College, Sydney

The Barker windows combine figurative elements with abstraction and symbolism, building a complex narrative about the meaning of faith in the Christian tradition.

The large Sanctuary and Gallery windows engage with the individual in spiritual and personal terms, while the smaller ambulatory windows along each side of the Chapel are thematically based on the Christian life cycle and creation.

Traditional ecclesiastical elements are primary but the existential narrative was further inspired by the writings of Judith Wright and Les Murray. This created a richness to the design which became the catalyst to the school creating classes set around the explicit and subliminal content found within the windows.
